SPACS Calculation of SPAllation Cross Sections
Items on this page
Description of the model
The semi-empirical SPACS model calculates cross sections of
proton- and neutron-induced spallation residues with a deterministic
method. A wide
range of system size and bombarding energy is supported including
proton- and neutron-induced spallation on light (around C) up to heavy
(Pb, Bi) nuclei, over an energy range from around 50 MeV to a few
hundred GeV (centre of mass). The restrictions in heavier systems are related to the fact that the code does not consider fission. Also, the lightest
residues in spallation are underpredicted, because multifragmentation (that becomes
important above center-of mass energies above several GeV) is not
considered, and the light particles produced by evaporation (especially
isotopes of hydrogen and helium) are not included.
Executables of the SPACS code for Windows[a] and Linux are available.
They are easy to use: Just download the ZIP file, extract the files and
run SPACS.exe (Windows [a]) or ./SPACS (Linux) in a command window on your
computer! The file README.txt contains further information.
